Wedding season has officially commenced

and you know what that means.....

IT'S ENGAGEMENT SESSION TIME!

If you are like me, I have to plan my outfits in advance for any special occasion!

When scheduling engagement sessions with clients, I often get asked... "What should we wear?" Let me save you the hassle of asking and offer some tips for planning your outfit for your next photoshoot!

*Disclaimer: This is your photoshoot and you are the one who will have these pictures for a lifetime. There are no rules, so ultimately it is YOUR decision.

Okay, now let's get into some tips! :)

Color coordinate, instead of matching.

Instead of matching colors directly, try to coordinate colors that compliment the other. Not sure what colors to choose? These are some of my favorites that always photograph well - rust orange, terra-cotta, olive green, ivory, beige, and tan. But the classic black, white, and navy looks great as well!

Bonus Tip: Try to avoid bold, primary colors - neutral, earthy tones work best!

Avoid distracting prints and patterns.

We want all the focus to be on YOU and your boo thang! Bold, busy prints can be sometimes be too distracting. Try to stick with more solid colors. To incorporate more dimension and texture to your look, try adding accessories and layers like a fedora, jackets, sweaters, or flannels.

Bonus Tip: If you choose to wear a print, have your partner consider wearing solid colors to best complement you!

Dressy vs. casual.

Some couples choose to outfits on the dressier side, while others prefer a more casual look for their engagement photos. It is truly just a personal preference! My recommendation would be to ensure your outfits align with the style you're going for. For example, if one is wearing ripped jeans, I would not recommend the other in a formal dress or suit.

For my ladies.

Let's touch on makeup and nails. From a photography standpoint, more naturally-enhanced makeup versus a heavy contour or dark smokey eye photograph much better (unless that is intentionally the look you are going for.) For nails, neutral colored nails can really enhance your photos, especially those close up ring details!
